‘Rewind, Replay, Rebound’ is an album of fun songs that will have fans pumped and rocking the days away.Germany holds an important place in the story of Volbeat. “Cheapside Sloggers” features some fantastic guest guitar shredding by Gary Holt of the bands Exodus and Slayer. “Sorry Sack Of Bones” has some nice rumbling drum work. Some other tracks that stand out to me are “Pelvis On Fire”, where Poulsen’s vocals seem to steer the music into overdrive as he stutters out “Ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, baby!” That song is a hip shaker for sure. The music and vocals are on point in taking you back in time. Volbeat shifts back the gears on “When We Were Kids” as it reminisces about the innocence and naïve times of our youth and thinking we would live forever. The song is quite catchy and I can easily see crowds singing along to it at the live shows.

“Last Day Under The Sun” the first song on the album was influenced by a Johnny Cash book that Poulsen had read where Cash had been so down on tough times with drugs and alcohol that he had gone into a cave to lay down and die only to wake up feeling he was given a second chance. The saxophone and piano add a touch of old-time rock and roll boogie that seems to be a lost art. The song bursts out immediately at full speed like a straight-ahead driving force that certainly fits Fallon’s style. Most notably the influx of additional talent can be heard on the track, “Die To Live”, which features guest vocalist Neil Fallon of Clutch along with Raynier Jacob Jacildo on piano and Doug Corocran on saxophone.

The signature Volbeat sound of Poulsen’s voice and those moments of heavy riffs and crowd inducing sing-a-long lyrics still exist, but they’ve also expanded their sounds with help from other musicians. Michael Poulsen on vocals and guitar, Rob Caggiano on guitar, Kaspar Boye Larsen on bass and Jon Larsen on drums have brought their talents back into the studio to create the seventh Volbeat album.
